Monday's live blog: Deadly flooding in California

An atmospheric river continues to bring catastrophic flash flooding, destructive winds, and heavy mountain snow to California for the second day in a row.

The flash flooding threat will continue into Tuesday for Southern California. A slight risk of excessive rain is in effect for the Los Angeles metro. Moisture will also push east, bringing a slight risk into Arizona. Phoenix is at a slight risk of flooding tomorrow as well. Power outages continue across California, but there has been some improvement. Currently, just over 358,000 customers are without power, an improvement from the more than half a million without power earlier on Monday.

Multiple landslides across the Los Angeles metro have damaged homes and businesses. Many have had to evacuate as rain continues to fall. Jonathan Petramala is on the scene with the latest as this powerful system continues to wreak havoc.

It's not just rain falling in California; some spots in the Sierra Nevada have recorded up to 2 feet of snow in the last 24 hours.

Some impressive rain totals have been recorded, and more rain is on the way. Los Angeles picked up 4.10 inches of rain on Sunday, setting a new daily rainfall record for that date. The previous record was set in 1927, which was 2.55 inches. It's also more rain than the city averages for February, which is 3.64 inches.

More than half a million customers are without power as the atmospheric river continues to send moisture into the Golden State. Damaging wind gusts, life-threatening landslides and flash flooding will continue throughout the rest of Monday.
