Damaging winds, floods
More severe storms for South Florida

Another round of severe weather is forecast for South Florida on Monday afternoon. Sunday was hectic, with several severe storms igniting across Florida´s southeast during the afternoon.

On Monday, the temperatures are rising quickly, which will allow the sea breeze to get started. As the breeze develops, severe thunderstorms fire up, mainly in bands. But by the afternoon, some of these storms can progress backward toward the coast and the most populated areas of South Florida, including Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

The biggest threats with the storms will be damaging winds of at least 60 mph, hail and the chance for a tornado to spin up. Although 99 percent of Florida is currently dealing with a drought, South Florida is dealing with extreme and severe droughts.

The ground could still be slightly saturated from Sunday's storms, and the compacted ground might not allow torrential rains to drain smoothly. Therefore, any thunderstorms that leave heavy rains in a short amount of time could lead to flooding. Track the storms in our WeatherRadar and stay away from flooded roads.
