More severe storms
Level 3 out of 5 for parts of the Plains

Friday's risk of severe thunderstorms

It’s another day with the threat of severe weather across the southern and central Plains. The bullseye, enhanced risk, level 3 of 5, is mainly focused this afternoon and evening over the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle, where there could be damaging winds, large hail, and multiple tornadoes.

The weather setup is similar to how it was on Thursday, just with a bit of a displacement to the south. There will be impulses of energy once again, in the mid to upper levels of the atmosphere that will trigger large thunderstorms starting Friday afternoon across the central Plains, but continuing and somewhat becoming more intense during the early evening hours once they get to the southern Plains.

The main threats with these thunderstorms will be large hail, above 2 inches in diameter, damaging winds in excess of 75 mph, and a few tornadoes are even possible.

Please make sure to have at least three ways of receiving weather alerts. If you have plans outdoors and are located in an area at risk, your best bet will be to have a plan b and check on the WeatherRadar constantly. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
