Powerful winds rock the Upper Midwest

Powerful winds ripped across the northern Plains and upper Midwest yesterday. Today's threat shifts east into the Great Lakes.

Powerful winds rippled through Minnesota yesterday. The video above shows a vehicle taking refuge at a gas station as the gusts pushed through Waconia, Minn., around 7 p.m. CT. Damaging wind was reported from Wyoming to the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Due to yesterday's winds, the Minnesota State Fair is delayed for Tuesday. The fairgrounds are closed for damage assessment and cleanup.

The risk of severe weather moves east today, extending over the Great Lakes. Powerful winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are possible today and into the evening in Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Cleveland. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar and turn on your app alerts.
