Multi-day severe threat unleashed

A multi-day severe threat targets the Midwest today, with storms impacting the Northeast on Thursday.

Portions of the upper Mississippi Valley and the Midwest are at risk of severe weather today and tonight. Large hail, damaging winds in excess of 75 mph and a few strong tornadoes are all possible.

The WeatherRadar shows storms firing up from Kansas to Michigan this afternoon and evening. Cities at risk include Kansas City, Mo., Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Wis., Chicago, Des Moines, Iowa, and Grand Rapids, Mich.

These storms will also bring a flash flood threat to the region, with rain rates between 2 and 3 inches per hour possible.

The severe threat continues on Thursday, with the risk stretching from the Midwest into the Northeast. Large hail, damaging wind gusts in excess of 75 mph and a few strong tornadoes are possible once again.

Many large metro areas, including Chicago, Milwaukee, Wis., New York and Philadelphia, are at risk of severe weather on Thursday. Damaging winds, hail and tornadoes are possible for the Midwest and Northeast, with the risk of a few strong tornadoes limited to the Midwest.
