Mythbusting!
Correcting some winter myths

Cold woman by radiator

It is easy to believe myths you see online, especially about the weather! So, today, we're exploring a few to find the truth.

Do we lose heat from our heads?

You may have heard that most of your body heat is lost through your head. However, the percentage of heat loss through that part of your body is only 7-10 percent.

Your body works hard to keep the brain warm, so it's worth popping on a woolly hat!

Hot drinks can warm us up.

The truth is that sufficient hydration is key to maintaining good health, whatever the weather—lack of water results in headaches, tiredness, and exhaustion.

Warm drinks raise your internal body temperature; as this rises, it causes you to sweat to cool the body down, causing more issues on a dull, dark day.

You don't need sunscreen in winter.

False! Up to 80 percent of harmful UV rays can still penetrate through them and can even be reflected by snow. So don't let the clouds fool you. Protect that skin!

You can stay updated on how cold it's getting via the TemperatureRadar.
