New blaze in Colorado
Challenging wildfire season

The western half of the country is experiencing an active wildfire season, and a new fire flared up in Colorado on Tuesday.

While the largest fire burning in the U.S. is the Park Fire, currently the fifth-largest blaze on record for California, other fires are impacting air quality across many communities. The Stone Canyon Fire started on Tuesday and has burned just over 1,300 acres. The video above shows this fire as it started near Lyons, Colo.

Hot and dry conditions have been fueling wildfires across the West. The TemperatureRadar shows temperatures well into the 90s and 100s west of the Mississippi. Since January, more than 750,000 acres have been burned across the country, far above the 5-year average of just under 150,000 acres.
