Artemis 1 Mission to launch Saturday

Calculations have been made, equipment and engines have been checked and NASA’s Artemis 1 Mission has a new launch date.

After a scrub on Monday, August 29, 2022, due to an engine leak, NASA has set the new launch date for Saturday, September 3. The two-hour launch window opens at 2:17 p.m. The Artemis 1 mission rocket still sits on launch complex 39B, surrounded by the 600-foot-tall lightning rod towers.

We will stream the launch live on our Facebook Page.

Afternoons are tough in Florida weather-wise. We are in the heat of summer when afternoon thunderstorms are the most common. We will be monitoring the weather closely as all it needs is a small weather-clear window for the rocket to launch without a “weather-scrub”.

What it takes...Weather and rockets: It’s complicated

The forecast on Wednesday issued by the 45thWeather Squadron, in charge of the forecast for rocket launches, predicts about a 60 percent chance of a go. They will issue a new forecast each day.

If for any reason the launch is scrubbed, the next launch day will be no earlier than Monday, September 5.
