Seen in every US state
Auroras dazzle the northern hemisphere

The northern lights put on an amazing show across the northern hemisphere Thursday night after a severe geomagnetic storm of G4 strength took place. More auroras are possible on Friday night too.

The sun spewed out a large coronal mass ejection this week and it impacted Earth's magnetic field starting Thursday. Beautiful auroras were the result, and many U.S. residents saw them as far south as the Florida Keys. They were reported in every U.S. state!

Many were able to view the lights even with the naked eye in areas with some light pollution - that's how strong the storm was.

Many Weather & Radar app users got to witness the stunning lights!

So far, there have been no reports of widespread communication issues. However, severe geomagnetic storms can cause radio blackouts, voltage control issues, and GPS degradation due to interference in Earth's magnetic field.
