Off the coast of Sardinia: Waterspout seen from cruise ship

Off the coast of Sardinia
Waterspout seen from cruise ship

A Weather & Radar app user got an unexpected sight during a cruise in the Mediterranean as a large waterspout formed in front of them.

Captured near Olbia, Italy, the waterspout can be seen at a safe distance from the ship.

A waterspout is nothing but a tornado over the sea or lakes. Whirlwinds form under stormy conditions, if this manages to reach the water surface, the funnel-shaped 'vortex' then sucks up the water turning a funnel cloud into a waterspout.
