Our meteorologist weekend forecast: Active east and Pacific NW, temps increase for Central Plains.

Active east and Pacific NW
Our meteorologist's weekend forecast

The weekend weather forecast will continue to be much more active across much of the Eastern Seaboard extended from the Deep South through New England. We expect another round of severe thunderstorms to affect parts of Florida, Georgia, and the coastal region of the Carolinas during the early morning hours on Saturday as the cold front pushes through. Cold air will linger in place across much of the East through the weekend.

Southeast's severe risk: Gusty winds, hail possible into Saturday

This system is being pushed east rapidly by a high-pressure system that will be mainly focusing across the Central Plains over the weekend. This high-pressure system will bring beautiful conditions but also a warming trend from Texas all the way through the Dakotas. By Sunday, the high-pressure system will be centered over the Southeast and will provide a south-to-southwesterly flow from Texas through Kansas. Windy conditions are expected all day Sunday when gusts could reach up to 40 mph. Stronger gusts will take over the Ohio Valley, mainly coming from the southwest.

High pressure brings stable weather for the Central Plains. Snow, rain and gusts for the east.

Strong winter storm heads to the East

Quiet Southwest, another system for the Pacific Northwest.

The Rockies through the West Coast will remain under mixed weather. Mostly stable weather will be dominating across much of the Four Corner, the Southwest, and California’s southern half. The Rockies will enjoy a mostly stable weekend with plenty of sunshine and temperatures between the mid-50s and low 60s in the afternoon. A low chance for flurries comes back into the forecast briefly for Denver on Sunday night.

Southern California will remain quiet under mostly sunny skies, with a light northerly wind. There could be a period of higher gusts, up to 25 mph along the Santa Barbara to Los Angeles coastal areas on Sunday morning lasting through the afternoon. Temperatures will be around the mid-70s during the afternoons.

Active Pacific Northwest

The clouds and rain chances will increase starting Saturday morning from extreme northern California through coastal Washington State as the next storm system inches closer. The first bands will travel through the higher elevations of the interior Pacific Northwest, increasing the chance for a few snow showers.

More round of showers and downpours will come late Saturday and early Sunday morning. Portland, Ore., could have an active Sunday morning, with downpours leaving conditions slippery on the roads by sunset and rain still falling through the rest of the morning.

By Sunday afternoon, heavier rounds of snow showers and mixed precipitation will affect the northern Rockies through the High Plains. This system will continue to move east of the Rockies by Monday morning and is the same one that will bring that change of snow over Colorado and Wyoming on Sunday evening.

Next week sneak-peak

By the beginning of next week, the storm will be moving to the Deep South, not before pulling lots of moisture over the Gulf Coast, again bringing the chance for thunderstorms by Tuesday.
