Outer Banks brace for Erin

Conditions are expected to worsen along North Carolina's Outer Banks as Hurricane Erin churns in the Atlantic. Storm surge flooding up to 4 feet will be possible Wednesday into Thursday.

The WeatherRadar shows Hurricane Erin moving along the East Coast Wednesday into Thursday. The storm is expected to strengthen back into a major hurricane. While the core of the storm stays offshore, North Carolina's Outer Banks will experience tropical storm conditions.

Tropical storm alerts are in place for the Outer Banks and Virginia beaches, including in Rodanthe, N.C., where residents are bracing for 2-4 feet of storm surge, beach erosion and coastal flooding.

Additionally, waves up to 20 feet high are possible. Life-threatening rip currents have also been a concern along the East Coast. As Erin turns northeast later this week, it will move into colder waters and begin to weaken.
