Heavy rain is rolling into the West Coast, bringing the threat of flooding to parts of northern California and southeastern Oregon.

This soggy system, as seen on the WeatherRadar, is called an atmospheric river because of its long tentacle of rain stretching deep into the Pacific. This particular system is called a Pineapple Express due to its origins near Hawaii.

The heavy rain will continue today and tonight, spreading into the interior Pacific Northwest and southward into the Bay Area while snow falls across the northern Rockies. Several inches of rain will be possible across Northern California through Wednesday.

Flooding along local waterways and mud and rock slides are possible across northern California into southeastern Oregon through early Wednesday.

The rain will subside early Wednesday, with the sky clearing and the sun returning later Wednesday afternoon.
