Potential Tropical Cyclone 22 (PTC 22) has formed over the west-central Caribbean. Tropical storm watches have been posted.

The area we have been watching all week, now classified as PTC 22, has been showing organization over the western Caribbean. It is expected to move northeast through the weekend, first moving over the eastern end of Cuba early this weekend as a tropical storm. The next name on the list is Vince.

The center of the system is moving towards Jamaica, with the larger cluster of thunderstorms towards southern Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for portions of the Greater Antilles, southeastern Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Impacts for the Central Caribbean and southern Bahamas

The heaviest rainfall will affect the central Caribbean islands, Jamaica, southern Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic (in that order). The most intense rainfall will occur on Friday. More than 6 inches of rain will be likely, with some spots exceeding 10 inches. Flooding and landslides are very possible.

We will continue to monitor this forecast and bring you updates as needed with the latest information.
