Peaks today
Record-breaking heat for the West

The heatwave impacting the western half of the U.S. peaks today, with more than a dozen record highs possible.

The TemperatureRadar shows heat building across the northern Great Basin and Plains today. Highs in the 90s will surge into Idaho, Oregon, southern Kansas, western Oklahoma, and western Texas. Much of the Rockies and Plains will reach the 70s and 80s.

Record highs are possible today in cities like Las Vegas, Reno, Nev., Salt Lake City, Boise, Idaho, Albuquerque, N.M., and Grand Junction, Colo.

This caps off a heatwave that has been building since last week, with temperatures surging over the weekend. While temperatures will remain above-average across portions of the Rockies and Southwest tomorrow, only a handful of record highs will be possible.

Record highs are possible tomorrow in cities like Denver, Casper, Wyo., and Amarillo, Texas.
