Severe outbreak in the Plains

Severe weather is expected to develop across the central Plains and Midwest this afternoon and evening, with the most significant risk being centered across the central Plains.

The WeatherRadar shows strong storms erupting this afternoon and evening across the south-central Plains and the mid-Missouri Valley. Severe storms capable of producing very large hail, along with multiple strong-to-intense tornadoes, are most likely from central Kansas and southeast Nebraska into Iowa and northwest Missouri.

The most significant severe risk is centered along the central Plains with strong tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds possible in cities such as Wichita, Kan., Woodward, Okla., Kansas City, Lincoln, Neb., and Des Moines, Iowa.

Severe storms, with damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes, may also impact parts of the southern Plains and the Midwest. Cities such as Dallas, St. Louis, Green Bay, Wis., Chicago, Springfield, Ill., and Indianapolis should be on alert.
