Until Monday morning
TX: Severe wind, isolated tornado threat

A potent low-pressure system is zipping east into the southern Plains today. Severe gusts, heavy rains and a tornado or two are not out of the question.

Places in western Texas are in for an active afternoon and night. The WeatherRadar is showing showers moving across the southern Plains eventually evolve into an evening and nocturnal severe thunderstorm threat.

Low-pressure trough digging south will trigger severe storms in the southern Plains tonight and Monday morning.

A very strong low-pressure trough digging south will swing eastward, causing instability. Places like Abilene, Midland, and Fort Stockton, Texas should have their eyes to the sky and their WeatherRadar as the highest chances for severe weather is expected here.

Tornadoes are possible, but gusty winds and heavy rain will be the main threat with this system. The WindRadar shows widespread gusts reaching to 30-40 mph today as this system moves through, but individual storm cells could have gusts up to 80 mph.

In addition to severe thunderstorms, this system will produce widespread moderate to heavy rain capable of triggering flash flooding. The heaviest precipitation will fall overnight across northwest Texas and central Oklahoma. Isolated rainfall up to 4 inches is possible in Oklahoma City.

Make sure you have at least three ways to receive a weather warning. Keep a close eye on the WeatherRadar if you have Sunday evening plans.
