Rounds of severe thunderstorms may impact communities stretching from Texas to the Southeast through the weekend. High winds, damaging hail, and a few tornadoes are possible with some of these storms.

The WeatherRadar shows showers and thunderstorms heading east across the northern Gulf Coast. Tap to see the interactive map.

The WeatherRadar shows thunderstorms already underway in parts of the Mid-South, including Louisiana and Mississippi. The storms will continue to push east, affecting more areas of the Deep South and Florida later today. A slight risk of severe weather, a level two out of five, is in place for southern Texas, the northern Gulf Coast and eastern Florida. This includes cities like New Orleans, Mobile, Ala., and Jacksonville, Fla.

The same system bringing today's severe weather threat across the northern Gulf Coast will impact the Southeast and Florida Friday. A few strong storms will be possible, stretching from Fort Myers, Fla., to Virginia Beach, Va. Severe wind gusts and hail will be the main threats.

Friday will also feature the return risk of severe weather to the Plains. Another low-pressure system dropping in from the central Rocky Mountains will re-introduce an enhanced risk (threat level three out of five) for severe thunderstorms from north-central Texas to the middle and lower Rio Grande Valley. Damaging hail is currently the primary hazard and may affect cities such as Dallas, Waco, and Austin, Texas.

Showers and thunderstorms associated with the Plains low pressure system will reach the northern Gulf Coast on Saturday. Some of these storms could bring severe impacts to communities across southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, though the intensity of these storms is forecast to remain on the low-end. By Sunday, the storms shift east towards the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

With multiple rounds of severe weather in the forecast, now is the time to review your severe weather safety plan and turn on your Weather & Radar app alerts!

Super Typhoon Bavi threatens Taiwan. 155 mph winds. . Weather Videos. Wednesday, July 8, 2026
The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
