Phil said it himself
Six more weeks of winter

groundhog

The world's most famous weather-predicting groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, has made his forecast. After seeing his shadow, Phil is predicting six more weeks of winter!

Every year on Feb. 2, thousands of people gather in Punxsutawney, Penn., to watch Phil emerge from his burrow at Gobbler's Knob. If Phil sees his shadow, six more weeks of winter are predicted. If not, then spring will be off to an early start. This morning, the WeatherRadar showed single-digit temperatures but clear conditions in Gobbler's Knob. Brrr!

Monday at around 7:25 a.m. ET, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, and the prediction is for six more weeks of winter. This event has been ongoing since 1877, and in that time, Phil has seen his shadow more than 100 times, thus predicting more winter. Phil has only predicted an early spring 21 times, the last time being in 2024.

It is no surprise that Phil is predicting winter to stick around, with below-average and even record-breaking cold chilling many in the East for more than a week now, with more cold in the forecast.
