South Carolina flood risk - Storms, rain to continue through the weekend

South Carolina flood risk
Storms, rain to continue through the weekend

Don’t let your guard down just yet South Carolina, thunderstorms will still be present to end the week and through the weekend as Debby moves away and a cold front approaches.

The center of Debby might have moved away from South Carolina, but lingering rain from its rain bands could still push through the Pee Dee and Lowcountry this Friday, contributing to flooding and increasing river and creek levels. As authorities have been warning, river levels might not crest until the middle of the week.

Flash flood dangersFlash flooding can be dangerous.

A low-pressure system will park itself in southern Georgia and the cold front will become stationary over the Carolinas. This setup will continue to aid the development of showers and storms. Unfortunately, the more copious storms will be focused along the coast, already oversaturated after Debby’s heavy rains. Our WeatherRadar shows how these storms will continue through the weekend, building stronger in the afternoon hours.

If you live near a river, please monitor flood stages closely, and heed the local authorities’ orders. If you have plans outdoors, monitor the weather closely and make sure to have another plan in case lightning is nearby.
