Southern California - Dangerous fire weather continues

Southern California
Dangerous fire weather continues

Firefighters and first responders continue battling the already historical and fast-spreading wildfires around Los Angeles. This week, with dry Santa Ana gusts and mild weather conditions, new and current fires have a high chance of spreading rapidly.

Critical fire weather conditions are present in southern California again this week, with an uptick in expected activity starting Tuesday morning through Wednesday. A potentially dangerous situation has been declared for Tuesday and Wednesday, with the National Weather Service noting an extreme risk.

Wind gusts between 45 and 70 mph combined witg humidity levels in the single digits are creating the dangerous weather conditions. The WindRadar shows the Santa Ana gusts moving out of the northeast, with the most intense gusts occurring in the mountains.

These southern California areas under the extreme risk have already seen dangerous fire weather in the last couple of months. Since last week, tens of thousands of acres have burned down thousands of structures and displaced thousands more people and animals. For example, the Pacific Palisades fire started on January 7, 2025, and is only 13 percent contained as of January 13.

Residents in the warned areas should continue to monitor the WindRadar for the gust forecast and have at least three ways to receive warnings and evacuation information.
