Southern storms
A few rumbles today

Spring storm season is right around the corner across the South and a few pesky rumbles of thunder will remind you to be prepared.

A weak storm system developing across Texas today will sweep across the Gulf Coast and the South tonight and Monday. Riding along a weak stationary front that divides warm air across the Gulf of Mexico with the much colder air to the north, this system will produce widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms. Check out the WeatherRadar to see where the storms are forming and where they are headed.

A few of storms could produce gusty winds that could knock off a few tree branches. A bigger concern could be localized downpours triggering flash flooding. The rain could cause streams and river to run high as snow melts and fills up local waterways.

The spring storm season slowly unfurls in the first three months of the year, with most of the storms developing along the Gulf Coast and Deep South. As the Gulf of Mexico warms up and send warm and humid air northward and clashes with the colder and drier air to the north, storms quickly form throughout Tornado Alley throughout the spring.
