Southern U.S.
New storm triggers weekend severe weather

A storm system moving through the Four Corners and Rockies on Friday, bringing rain and mountain snow, will shift into the southern Plains this evening and overnight. Heavy rain and nocturnal severe storms are possible.

The WeatherRadar shows an already busy day across the Four Corners and central and southern Rockies. This storm system will move into the Front Range this afternoon and into the southern Plains tonight, triggering thunderstorms, some of them becoming severe from Fort Stockton, Texas, to Wichita, Kan. Damaging gusts greater than 57 mph and large hail are possible.

As this storm shifts east, more isolated severe storms are possible, targeting Texas and Louisiana on Saturday and then across the Deep South from New Orleans, La., to Birmingham, Ala., and down to Orlando, Fla., on Sunday.

Adding to the spring-like system is a risk for flash flooding. Have your weather alerts switched on in the app to receive information about incoming flooding rains or severe storms.
