Stormy Southeast days
Severe storms move through, more to come

Severe storms moving through the southeast on Wednesday afternoon.

Severe storms are pushing over parts of north Florida and southern Georgia as a low-pressure system crawls through the region. The storms are expected to impact the eastern half of South Carolina through the afternoon.

The storms have been moving from the west-southwest to the east-northeast. We forecast this movement to continue through the rest of the afternoon and for more storms to develop along the cold front as it moves east.

Strong to severe storms could develop damaging winds and isolated tornadoes from northern Florida through the coastal areas of South Carolina, including southern Georgia. Several severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued since this morning across Florida’s Panhandle. The highest chance for tornadic storms focuses over areas just east of Panama City to Apalachicola northward over Tallahassee through Albany, Ga., and areas just east of Macon, Ga. Storms will affect important interstates like I-75 and I-16 in Georgia.

Florida will also have an active weather department. Storms will pick up in the afternoon, across Central Florida, as the sea breezes might be triggered by the hot temperatures affecting the state. Expect the storms to line up near I-4 just in time for the afternoon commute. Frequent lightning and some isolated severe storms are possible through the early evening hours.

The low pressure affecting the southeast has a cold front that will stall over north Florida and southern Georgia through the end of the week. This cold front is not expected to cool down the temperatures, instead, it will keep conditions soggy and muggy. Cooler temperatures are expected across Northern Georgia and the interior areas of the Carolinas.

There is another cold front that will sweep all this muggy and warm weather away by the end of the week and will push through the Florida Peninsula, bringing a much cooler Sunday for much of Florida.

By Saturday, the highs will be between 20 -25 degrees below normal for Alabama and around 10 degrees below normal for Georgia. But a line of showers and strong thunderstorms will likely still be affecting parts of southern Georgia and northern Florida in the morning. By the evening, the skies will clear over this area and the temperatures will fall. Strong to isolated severe storms will be possible from central to south Florida until the end of the day on Saturday.
