    Summer, fall on one map

Summer, fall on one map
45-degree temperature spread

Big temperature contrast across the Plains.

The central U.S. is having another wild start to the work week with autumn trying to push summer aside.

The TemperatureRadar shows the sharp contrast in today's temperatures. Possible record-setting 90s are likely throughout the central and southern Plains while low to middle 40s are found across the Dakotas.

The extreme temperature differences are due to a strong high pressure over the Southeast. This is producing abundant sunshine while a southerly flow, as seen on the WindRadar brings warm air northward.

On the northwest edge of high pressure, an autumn cold front is the dividing line between the extremely warm air to the south and a chilly, overcast and showery weather streaking across the northern Plains. The front will slowly slide southward over the next several days, with the WeatherRadar showing severe storms possible Wednesday across southern Plains.
