Power sapping heat
Texas heat produces new record

The unending heat wave continues across Texas, with temperatures once again hitting the triple digits and more near record electric consumption possible.

On Wednesday, ERCOT, the organization that manages the Texas grid, said it had its highest electric generation days in history as air conditioners across the entire state cranked all day. As our TemperatureRadar shows, large parts of the state were in the upper 90s and triple digits, include highly populated corridors around Dallas, San Antonio and Houston.

No brown- or black-outs were reported as utilities used a mix of natural gas, solar and wind generation to keep up with demand. ERCOT has a history of power outages due to weather. More near-record power usage is likely over the next several days as temperatures stay in the upper 90s and low triple digits.

Across Eastern Texas, a few thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, so keep an eye on the WeatherRadar. This will help break the heat briefly, but it will remain hot into the weekend.

Check the daily forecast for the latest temperature trends. Our TemperatureRadar provides a holistic opportunity.
