High blocks change
Texas's Panhandle storms, heat

The Texas Panhandle and Plains will deal with scattered afternoon and evening storms, and a rebound in temperatures on Thursday.

Our WeatherRadar shows the chance for some strong afternoon and early evening storms across the northern tier of the Texas Panhandle on Wednesday. These storms will be very scattered, and a couple could turn severe, producing damaging gusts. Make sure to keep your phone on and turn on the weather alerts.

The extreme heat returns on Thursday across the same region. There is a low chance for even more scattered afternoon storms on Thursday but with more sunshine, the temperatures will soar to upper 90s and low 100s. Towns like Childress and Wichita Falls, Texas could reach up to 101F by 4 p.m. on Thursday.

There will be several low-pressure systems with their fronts trying to approach the Pandhandle this week throughout the weekend, but a high pressure system over northern Mexico will block their passage and is expected to stay put at least through much of next week.
