Last month was the third warmest July on record worldwide. The average temperature was 62.02°F (16.68° Celsius), according to the European climate change service Copernicus.

It was only warmer in July 2023 and 2024. Globally, this year was 0.81°F (0.45° Celsius) degrees warmer than the July average for the years 1991 to 2020.

The western hemisphere, including the U.S., had slightly below normal temperatures last month. However, those were outweighed by extremely warm temperatures in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Asia. In Turkey, a national temperature record of 122.9°F (50.5° C) was recorded.

The world's oceans were also very warm in July 2025: at 69.26°F (20.77° C), the third-highest sea surface temperature ever recorded for this month was measured. The North Sea and North Atlantic in particular broke records.

Arctic sea ice shrank to its second smallest size in July since satellite measurements began.
