Through the overnight - Sunday's severe storms target Plains

Through the overnight
Sunday's severe storms target Plains

After a busy Saturday across the Plains, more severe storms are expected, with a focus on Kansas and southeastern Nebraska. Hail and damaging gusts could also make it down into the lower Mississippi Valley.

The WeatherRadar shows activity churning across the central Plains starting this afternoon as a disturbance rolls off the Rockies. Wichita and Topeka, Kan., as well as Kansas City, Mo., have the best chance for the strongest severe storms.

Southerly flow from the Gulf will feed the overall storm system, prepping the environment throughout much of Sunday. This will support strong tornadoes, large hail greater than two inches in diameter and damaging winds.

While the storms are expected to start up late this afternoon, they do last into the overnight, bringing that extra nocturnal threat of tornadoes.
