World Weatherperson's Day
Time to celebrate meteorologists

It’s time to give it up for… us! Today marks National Weatherperson’s Day, a time to recognize not just professional meteorologists, but amateur ones too!

The date is derived from the birthday of Dr. John Jeffries, born February 5, 1744. Jeffries is considered one of America’s first ever weather observers.

Starting in 1774, he took daily weather measurements and in 1748 flew to London via balloon to gather data for a study on air at high altitudes.

Today is an informal day to celebrate all things meteorologist. Whether it’s by checking out our stories on your favorite app, Weather&Radar or getting outdoors to carry out amateur meteorology yourself, you can join in on the weather-loving fun!

Meanwhile, we will get on with what we do best - analyzing the weather and giving you the latest updates for your area!
