Tornadoes tear through southern Michigan

A severe weather outbreak that started on Monday brought tornadoes to Michigan and other states. The video above shows some of the damage in a southwest Michigan neighborhood.

Storms erupted across parts of the Midwest on Tuesday, with tornadoes reported across Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. The driver of this severe weather was the same system that brought deadly tornadoes to Oklahoma on Monday night. The Midwest wasn't the only region to see severe storms, tornadoes were also reported in Arkansas and West Virginia.

Southwest Michigan was the hardest hit by these powerful storms. A FedEx facility in Portage, Mich., sustained heavy damage, and around 50 people were trapped inside Tuesday night after a tornado hit the facility. All of the employees were accounted for and safe.

Also in Portage, Mich., injuries and heavy damage were reported at a mobile home park. The video above shows the damage to this mobile home park as residents and first responders shifted through the damage.

Earlier Tuesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued its first-ever tornado emergency in Michigan for Union City and Sherwood. After the storms passed, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued a state of emergency for four counties.
