A tornado formed and touched down in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday afternoon.

The same low-pressure system that affected the Northeast on Saturday had an extensive cold front passing through Florida on Saturday as well. This front produced showers throughout Florida and also several tornado warnings, especially over the southern portion of Florida.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning after noticing a tightening rotation on radar around 5:45 p.m. Eastern Time, in the Las Olas area, near the coast of Broward County.

Where and where was it heading to?

It was near Federal Highway heading northeast toward Las Olas Blvd, the local National Weather Service in Miami-Florida said.

Many residents caught the tornado on camera, obviously making landfall after seeing all the lights flashing from the explosions of the transformers.

The local National Weather Service office said they would assess the damage on Sunday and issue a preliminary tornado classification. So far no injuries have been reported.

Cloudy skies are still expected on Sunday and this will keep temperatures in the low to mid-70s. The wind could be strong at times with gusts up to 25 mph. Some storms will be more likely to start the day.
