Tropical update
A potential tropical system in Caribbean

We continue to monitor two tropical waves across the Atlantic one it's closer to home but it's not expected to hit The US in any form. The National Hurricane Center has labeled the Caribbean wave as Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC) 13.

Tropical depression 12 continues to linger over the open waters of the far eastern Atlantic. This system is expected to dissipate by Thursday night.

Invest 91 becomes PTC 13

A robust tropical wave that continues to bring heavy rounds of rain across northern Venezuela is approaching the central Caribbean. Its proximity to land is preventing this system from fully developing these days. The National Hurricane Center at 11 a.m. on Thursday has labeled this system as Potential Tropical Cyclone 13. This allows the NHC to start advisories since it is close to land, but it is not yet a fully developed system.

Tropical Storm conditions are likely within the next 36 hours for the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia.

But by Saturday, the system will be over the central Caribbean, mostly all over the water, which will allow this system to strengthen and organize much better.

Rounds of heavy rains will continue to affect much of northern Venezuela. Also, strong winds and then dangerous seas affected local areas as well period as this system continues to move west expect the downpours to affect northern Colombia.

The next name on the list is Julia.

Models show that the system will be intensifying and likely reaching hurricane status, likely category 2, while it moves toward Nicaragua and Honduras. Our WindRadar shows that this system should have at least a tropical storm for winds by Friday evening.

Why isn’t this system turning north?

There is a strong high-pressure system located over the southeastern U.S. which is acting like a shield, guiding Invest 91L straight to the west.
