Tropical update
Heavy rains coming to the Carolinas

As we move on to the second half of July, we monitor a tropical wave near the Southeast coast bringing heavy rainfall this weekend.

The next name on the list for the Atlantic Basin is ‘Chris’. Although we are watching a tropical disturbance, it does not look like it has enough time or favorable conditions to develop before moving onshore. Regardless, this system will bring periods of heavy rains for portions of the Carolinas.

Parts of northeast South Carolina and southeast North Carolina could receive between 3 and 4 inches of rain between late Friday evening and Saturday evening. Some isolated spots could receive higher amounts, above 5 inches. Flash floods are more probable due to the current drought levels in the area. Please make sure to avoid flood waters. Turn around, don’t drown.

Please plan accordingly. Check our WeatherRadar to time out the rain and storm clusters coming your way so that you stay safe. Remember to remain indoors if you hear thunder. The beach will not be the best place to be on Saturday, as there is the risk of rip currents and the waters will be rough and choppy.
