Tropical update: Hurricane Danielle & a slow disturbance

The good news remains for the Contiguous United States, no tropical threat during this long Labor Day Weekend. We will leave all the laboring to the tropics (and us) as there are 3 systems, we will monitor for you.

Besides officially becoming a hurricane, there is not much new about Danielle. It has sustained winds at 75 mph and moving west at 1mph. It will stay stationary throughout the weekend, likely gaining some more strength during the weekend. Usually, we would have our first hurricane by August 5, but we all know that pause the tropics had in July and August has delayed all timelines this season. Regardless of strength, this system is not expected to threaten land this weekend. We will wait to see how it evolves once it starts moving early next week.

It is becoming more obvious that this system will just fizzle out. The tropical wave is battling dry air and it will be moving over cooler waters. So there is not much to monitor here as it is not threatening any body of land.

It seems like the tropical wave approaching the northeastern corner of the Caribbean is playing games. But meteorologically what is happening is that it is fighting all the dry air it is encountering. It is also fighting wind shear which could get stronger over the weekend. Invest 91L, the label that the National Hurricane Center has given it will continue to move slowly to the west-northwest, passing to the north of the Lesser Antilles. Antigua Barbuda, The U.S., and the British Virgin Islands could see some tropical downpours courtesy of this disturbance over the weekend, but not much more.

By next week the system is forecast to be north of Puerto Rico. We are monitoring the Bermuda high and a system that could be exiting the United States. Depending on the time of exit of the U.S. system, the disturbance might be swept away and stay very far away from the nation.
