Tropical update: Karl spinning in the Gulf of Mexico

Tropical update
Karl spinning in the Gulf of Mexico

Tropical Storm Karl

One named storm close to home, but not coming to the U.S., and nothing else out there, at the moment.

Tropical Storm Karl is making a loop and although it is moving to the north-northwest, it will come to a stop and make a turn to the south early Thursday morning. The track shows that Karl should be making landfall as a tropical storm in Veracruz on Friday afternoon.

Tropical storm conditions are likely to start on Thursday, by sunrise, across Veracruz. This means that tropical-storm-force winds will start by then.

Heavy rains are expected across Veracruz and Tabasco. Flooding is likely as well as mudslides in areas of higher terrain.

The rest of the tropics are quiet. This is great news but remember there are still about 6 weeks of hurricane season. Fronts are starting to make their way south and there are times that they leave lingering energy behind over the Gulf of Mexico or across the western Atlantic closer to the East Coast which could be just enough for a tropical system to develop if conditions are favorable.

We will continue to monitor the tropics closer and bring you prompt updates.
