Tropical update
Southeast marine, beach impacts

Tropical Storm Alberto might be history for the Gulf of Mexico. However, conditions are still active in the tropics with two disturbances, one creating dangerous marine conditions across the southeastern U.S.

First, let’s talk about the area that could develop sooner. A disturbance is located a few hundred miles east of Florida and the Hurricane Hunters are investigating it as it can become a tropical depression late Thursday or very early Friday. This system will likely land between the Florida and Georgia coasts. It is not likely to be a big rainmaker, but it will bring several dangers to Florida's beach and marine sectors through the Carolinas.

As far as rain, from north Florida through the southern coast of Georgia there could be up to 2 inches of rain. Beach days should be out of your plans as the risk of rip currents, choppy seas, and high surf will continue to be present through at least Friday evening.

Is another Gulf system in the works?

In the same area where Alberto was born, there could be another system by early next week. Currently, the disturbance is over the Gulf of Honduras and will be crossing over to the Bay of Campeche on Saturday and gain more organization and strength becoming a tropical depression late in the weekend or early next week. Mexico should be monitoring this system closely as it is slated to be near the Veracruz and Tamaulipas coastlines.

This is a good time to review your hurricane plans and make sure all your important documents are secured and in order. This included your insurance policies as well as extra medication in hand. If you have a generator, make sure it works.
