Tropical update
Tropical waves, but overall quiet

no tropical formation

Let’s start out with the good news: there is no tropical storm formation over the next 7 days across the Atlantic Basin. But, there are a few tropical waves tracking through the tropics, though. Let’s discuss.

The closest tropical wave extends from Aruba northward through Hispaniola. There is increased rain and thunderstorm activity with this tropical wave. The Hispaniola should get ready for a soggy day with some gusty storms.

A moisture-rich tropical wave is located between the Lesser Antilles and Cabo Verde Islands in Africa. It is moving westward, currently not affecting any land. Another tropical wave is just west of the Cabo Verde Islands and will also continue traveling westward, but it is located a bit north of the second tropical wave discussed.

Luckily, none of these are expected to develop within the next 7 days as the two tropical waves between the Caribbean and Africa are surrounded by very dry and dusty air which hinders tropical storm formation.

Long-range models continue to hint that the pattern might flip after the second week of July when the Atlantic Basin’s wind shear becomes more relaxed and there is a more favorable environment for low-pressure systems to develop.
