NE and Great Plains
Two regions may see strong storms Friday

As we close out the work week, two regions are at risk for strong storms. Both the Northeast and Great Plains may experience damaging winds and hail today, with an isolated tornado possible across the Plains.

Scattered severe storms with large hail and wind gusts up to 80 mph will be possible this afternoon into the evening along the Front Range to the central Great Plains. While the tornado threat is low, an isolated spin-up cannot be ruled out.

Parts of the Northeast are also at risk for strong storms today. Scattered strong storms with damaging winds and hail are possible across the Northeast States during the afternoon and early evening.

Both regions are under a slight risk, a level two out of five, of severe storms today. In the Great Plains, cities like Denver, McCook, Neb., and Colby, Kan., should be on alert for these strong storms. Large metro areas in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, such as Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, and New York City, should be alert to potentially powerful storms during the busy afternoon commute and early evening hours.
