Typhoon Gaemi took a unique path before making landfall in Taiwan on Tuesday.

Typhoon Gaemi deviated considerably south from the forecasted path due to interaction with Taiwan’s mountainous terrain, making a counterclockwise loop just off the main island’s eastern coast.

The typhoon brought torrential rain and strong winds to Taiwan, leading to the closure of schools and the evacuation of thousands from their homes. In addition to significant damage, at least three people were reported dead, and over 220 were injured.
