Until Monday afternoon - Hawaiian flash flood risk

The Hawaiian Islands had a wet weekend and umbrellas are still needed on Monday, but things will begin to clear soon.

An upper-level low has been causing a disruption to the normally sunny weather across the Hawaiian Islands. Tapping into the abundant Pacific moisture that surrounds the entire island chain, the low has been forcing heavy rain and thunderstorms since Saturday. However, it was cold enough for the rain to turn to snow on Mauna Kea.

Flash flood watches have been issued due to the excessive rainfall when October is normally a quiet month for the islands. The main areas that could see flooding are on the mountain, or mauka, slopes.

Today, most of the rain sticks to the northern portion of the island chain, with Kaua'i seeing as much as two inches by Tuesday, as seen on the WeatherRadar. Little sunshine will be seen on the island, like in Lihue.

All islands in Hawaii have been experiencing some sort of drought, making it easier for flash flooding to occur. Make sure to turn around, don't drown if you come to a flooded roadway.
