Watch: flood waters plus snow

Flash flooding over the weekend impacted communities across the Tennessee Valley and into the Appalachians. In Hopkinsville, Tenn., snow fell over flood waters on Sunday morning.

This weekend, a powerful storm system roared across the eastern half of the U.S. Devastating flash flooding impacted parts of west Tennessee, southern Kentucky, West Virginia and western Virginia. In Hopkinsville, Ky., 1 to 2 inches of snow fell after devasting flooding impacted the city.

River flooding is also ongoing across portions of the South after 5 to inches fell over 48 hours. Numerous roads remain closed across the region, and sadly, one person was killed by flood waters in Manchester, Ky.

A levee failure on the Obion River near Rives, Tenn., led to extensive flooding. Residents in low-lying communities were encouraged to seek higher ground as waters rose.
