Monsoon brings flooding threat

Monsoonal moisture can bring the risk of flooding to the Southwest. Earlier in the week, a dry arroyo was filled with water after a monsoon thunderstorm.

The power of water was on display in Stoneham, Colo., after a monsoonal storm filled a dry arroyo with rushing water. While monsoon storms bring beneficial rain, they can also bring dangerous flash flooding.

The WeatherRadar shows monsoon storms firing up in the Four Corners region today into Thursday. Flash flooding is possible, especially in urban areas, roads, low-lying areas, canyons, gullies and burn scars. Areas that are typically dry can quickly fill with water after a downpour.
