    Wildfire smoke travels 1K+ miles

Canada to Mid-Atlantic
Wildfire smoke travels 1K+ miles

It's about 1,000 miles from central Ontario, Canada, to Washington, D.C., as the crow flies, but thanks to a strong high-pressure system, Canadian wildfire smoke is easily showing up on the doorsteps of residents as far south as the nation's capital.

If you thought the heat was the only impact the strong high-pressure system was bringing, think again! The clockwise circulation is pushing billowing wildfire smoke from active fires in central Ontario into the northeastern quadrant of the U.S. You can see it on the WeatherRadar.

Tuesday's air quality is mostly a non-issue since the smoke is still well above our heads in the atmosphere; however, by Wednesday and Thursday, some settling could occur, impacting the air quality for sensitive groups. Good thing many will be indoors, staying cool during the peak of this next heatwave!
