Wind, large hail & tornadoes Three areas under severe risk

Storms pick up intensity and coverage over the Plains. Over one million people are at risk of experiencing a few tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. Another two areas could be dealing with severe storms too from Florida to the Mid-Atlantic.

The Southern Plains are again the target to deal with numerous severe storms. The Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle, including areas just west of Oklahoma City could deal with several severe storms in the afternoon and evening as the next low-pressure system forms just to the east of the Rockies. There will be plenty of moisture ahead of the low developing over the Southern Plains. The day starts quietly across the Panhandles and the storms that affect north-central Oklahoma are moving east. Expect the weather to clear across much of the state, and the temperatures to warm with the aid of the south-southwest flow. By the early evening clouds will take over and the storms will erupt.

There are two areas at slight risk for severe storms. Florida has been dealing with some strong to severe storms overnight and Wednesday morning. The commute is a wet and stormy one across central portions of I-4, I-75, I-95, and the Florida Turnpike. There is quite a light show going on, with some spots that could be dealing with minor flooding. Expect this line of storms to continue to drift southward slowly during the morning as it loses its strength. By the afternoon, there could be some scattered showers and storms moving over South Florida, but they will be less organized.

For the Carolinas, the day's heating will ignite some storms during the late morning and early afternoon as a low-pressure system moves in. The biggest threat from Columbus, S.C., to Charlotte and Raleigh will be damaging winds and large hail. Please don’t let your guard down. If you still have plenty of heat and sunny skies in the afternoon, some storms could also be possible in the late afternoon, after the atmosphere receives enough warmth and becomes more unstable.
