Southern chill
Winter returns just in time for Spring

The Spring Equinox is Tuesday, but Winter's final day will pack a punch as chilly air descends into the South. The first day of Spring will kick off with freezing temperatures for millions tomorrow, but this chill won't last long.

The WeatherRadar shows a cold high pressure sitting over the southern Plains Tuesday morning. This high, combined with northwest winds, will keep chilly air in place across the South today. The good news is that this return to Winter-like temperatures will be brief. However, some steps will need to be taken to save any early blooms that may be impacted.

The TemperatureRadar shows highs on Tuesday, only reaching the 50s in Nashville and Memphis, Tenn., and Atlanta, and the lower 60s in cities like Jacksonville, Fla. In addition to afternoon temperatures running below average, breezy winds will have you reaching for the outer layers today. The WindRadar shows gusts up to 20 mph this afternoon across the South and Southeast.

Afternoon highs

Temperatures will begin to warm up across the South by Wednesday, which means this Winter blast won't last long. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar for the latest on the conditions where you live.
