Snow is on the way
Has winter arrived in the Sierras?

While we are all busy watching the stores stock up on Halloween candy and pumpkin spice everything, parts of the Sierras are already shifting into the colder season. Snow is expected through Thursday evening.

It isn't typical for snow to accumulate in the southern Sierras this early in the meteorological autumn season, but when cold air and moisture are provided — snow is possible! Winter weather advisories have been posted for places like Bridgeport, Mammoth Lakes, and Coleville, Calif., in the Sierra and White mountains.

The WeatherRadar shows the southern Sierra snow getting started today with intensity picking up Thursday morning. Two to 4 inches are possible by the time things quiet down. Travelers and residents are encouraged to keep a close eye on the conditions as surfaces are expected to become slippery.

The accumulating snow is expected to dwindle by Thursday evening, leaving behind an early-season winter wonderland!

Recently, Cottonwood Canyons in Solitude, Utah, saw their first snow of the season! Skiiers and snowboarders are sure to be getting excited for the upcoming ski season. Be sure to check the app for ski conditions as we head into the colder months!
