The mercury continues to climb across the Southeast through the end of the week as high pressure and southwesterly and southerly flow set the parking brake.

Record-breaking and near-record-breaking highs are on deck through the weekend, especially in the Southeast and Florida. Upper-level winds out of the southern U.S. and Mexican Plateau are supporting the warmer-than-average temperatures throughout the next few days.

The TemperatureRadar shows continuous heat over the next four days in the Southeast, with highs reaching into the 80s and even 90s, with upper 60s being found in the North Carolina mountains on Thursday.

Today’s warmest highs will be found across the South and Southeast with spots like Asheville, N.C., Atlanta and Augusta, Ga., Greenville, S.C., and Lakeland, Fla., possibly reaching record highs.

Many of these records that could be broken today date back to the early 1900s, with the Augusta, Ga., record dating as far back as 1896 (91F). The 128-year-old record has the chance to be broken today as temperatures reach the upper 80s and even the low 90s.

This weekend, Florida will continue to have highs in the upper 80s and 90s, possibly tying or breaking records dating back to the 1960s and as far back as 1944.

The heat making it feel like summer across the Southeast and Florida is about 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year. According to the Climate Prediction Center, there is a good chance of having above-average heat through the next two weeks!

Be sure you and your gardens stay hydrated through the above-average warmth over the next few days, and keep track of any cooling rain showers or storms on the WeatherRadar.
