30° change for some in TX
Big weekend temperature swings

Texas continues with the typical weather whiplash. The drastic changes will be felt all over the weekend. Some in the northern half will have a 30-degree temperature difference between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

A strong cold front will be traveling over the Central Plains. Unlike last Super Bowl, where there was a polar vortex causing fatally cold temperatures, this year, the Plains will be in the 30s on Sunday afternoon. It's chilly air, about 10 degrees cooler than usual, but not unbearable. The cold will even extend to North Texas.

There has been a parade of fronts arriving or getting close to coming across the Metroplex, and this weekend won't be any different. Temperatures in the San Angelo region will go from record heat, with highs topping near 90F, to temperatures in the mid-50s if the sun gets to peak out just in time. Remember that if the clouds associated with the front hang out a bit longer in the afternoon, temperatures could stay cooler.

A similar setup is expected to be over the Metroplex. It will be a toasty afternoon on Saturday, with highs in the mid-80s. As the front pushes through in the late afternoon and evening, temperatures will quickly fall into the 40s on Sunday morning and stay in the mid-50s on Sunday afternoon. The front will likely move south enough to keep the cold air in place on Monday, but another storm is expected to arrive on Tuesday, increasing the chance for showers in the region.

For the southern half of Texas, there won't be much changes. The I-35 corridor will not change drastically as this weekend's front will lose speed and retract. Highs will be in the low to mid-70s from San Antonio to Houston through Corpus Christi, while South Texas will reach the low to mid-80s. The next front, which will pass in the middle of the week, is forecast to bring a drop in temperatures state-wide by Thursday.
