The quake was felt in New York City, where residents were encouraged to seek shelter as buildings shook. So far, there are no reports of damage or injuries, but more aftershocks are possible. Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy Airport were at a ground stop shortly after the earthquake so the runways could be inspected for damage.

According to reports, the earthquake was felt throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere across the Northeast. Shaking was even reported as far away as Cambridge, Mass., about 250 miles away from the reported epicenter.
